So, just like everyone else at the moment, I have started listening to garage again. Not by chance as it seems for a long time now there has been a revival in the garage scene. DJ's such as DJ Ez have been stuck on some pretty big line ups. But you can't talk about garage and not mention Sticky. Remember that tune from from the turn of the century with Ms Dynamite that everyone seems to know the words too but you and about half way through the song everyone screens BOO! Yeah, this one...........
Well anyway, garage has become cool again, which I think is great because this could lead to the resurrection of Craig David's career. Now don't tell me you haven't missed Craig and his mates the Artful Dodger, MJ Cole and Daniel Bedingfield.
So with garage being the "ting" to listen to again it only seemed right that Mixmag get Foundation together for a mix of the week. Foundation is comprised of Sticky and Scott Garcia. This mix is great as it combines some classic late 90's/early 2001 tracks with some tracks that were only released 2 or 3 years ago and they all seem like they belong together.
So, I thought I would start my blog back as sadly I kind of missed it and looking at my year ahead I got some cool stuff to talk about.
So to start off my come back mission I thought I could ket you know what choon was dropping at my average New Years Eve celebrations got RRREEEAAALLLLLLLYYYYY exciting when I got to "count down," from ten to zero. Honestly I have not really been a massive fan on New Years parties but I trundled on down to Secret Sundaze. This year it was located in the south London paradise also known as Peckham. With DJ's on the bill like Trevino, AndreÅ›, Martyn Amir Alexander, James Priestly and Giles Smith it was set to be storming.
I was most looking forward Marcus Intalex acid house project Trevino and he didn't disappoint. I am not going to lie to you and tell you it was "amazing" and "he smashed it" because I don't think a set should be judged on one tune that I remember, because at this point I was hammered. But the tune I do remember got a big reaction from the crowd and on further inquiry to the meth head next to me (I think he had a go at me for not knowing the song name, which I got quite insulted by as being screamed at by a meth head at 4 in the morning is an experience I wish on know one) I found out it was called Tweakonomics. It goes like this:
After that I was throughly inebriated and lost everyone so went looking for my friends. This involved tripping over things stumbling into people and instead of saying I was sorry, decided to wish everyone and anyone who would listen happy new year. If I did this at any other time of the year in Peckham's coldest club The Bussey Building I would get beat up. But as it's NYE people embraced my friendliness and for some reason wanted to hug it out. Bunch of weirdos.
Having got home at silly o'clock and lay upon my bed ready for some well deserved rest I concluded, just like I do every year and I am pretty sure most people say the same thing, that New Year's Eve is a standard night of the year for going out apart from the added bonus of getting to shout at the top of your lungs the number ten to one.
